Saturday July
26th, 2003
Three
U.S. soldiers were killed while guarding a children's
hospital near Baghdad on Saturday in the latest in a wave of
attacks that have not been stopped by the deaths of Saddam
Hussein's sons.
Despite two years of operation, the American-led
coalition has failed to root out the Afghan-based Taliban/al-Qaeda
forces. After a few months of retreat in the face
of the advancing American forces in late 2001 and early 2002,
they managed to regroup to engage the coalition forces in small-scale
hit-and-run operations.
These are times in which there are many more questions
than answers, and many Americans
are beginning to form and articulate these questions.
The official
list of American military personnel killed in
Operation Iraqi Freedom as of 12:15 p.m. EDT Friday, July 25.
The U.S. government is investigating whether the death
of a Missouri National Guardsman is related to
11 other incidents of severe pneumonia among soldiers stationed
in the Middle East.
