The U.S. military commander of Iraq's biggest province
said Thursday American troops were virtually powerless to stop
escalating booby-trap and bomb attacks on their convoys.
A US soldier has been killed after his armoured
car drove over a land mine on the road from the centre of Baghdad
to the airport. It
is the second American death reported in Iraq today.
The overthrow of Saddam Hussein has not lessened
the security threat to Britain from weapons of mass destruction
and international
terrorism, MPs have warned.
U.S. forces killed at least three suspected
insurgents spotted near an American base in volatile eastern Afghanistan,
a U.S. military
spokesman said Thursday.
President Bush has a huge credibility gap stemming
from his exaggerated rhetoric that led the United States to attack
Iraq.
